Book reviews for September 2022

37 books and counting… if it’s not obvious, I’m on a determined hunt for broader, richer understanding of things I thought I knew, but about which I found that I was surprisingly uneducated. I’ve been compiling a list of the books, along with my own reviews and the Amazon blurb about the book.

At any rate, my reading has continued, and I’ve updated my Suggested Reading List page accordingly. I’ve added reviews and links to the following eight new books:

Scapegoats: The Gospel through the Eyes of Victims” by Jennifer Garcia Bashaw

Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents” by Isabel Wilkerson

Bible, Gender, Sexuality: Reframing the Church’s Debate on Same-Sex Relationships” by James V. Brownson

Scripture, Ethics, and the Possibility of Same-Sex Relationships” by Karen R. Keen

God and the Gay Christian: The Biblical Case in Support of Same-Sex Relationships” by Matthew Vines

The Religion of American Greatness: What’s Wrong with Christian Nationalism” by Paul D. Miller

This Is the Word of the Lord: How the Bible Became Text and Why It Matters” by Dr. Bill Thomason

A Portrait of Jesus” by Father Joseph F. Girzone
